7 – I would like to be informed of the academic degree system in the Czech Republic. There are three kinds of degrees awarded in Charles University: Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. Bachelor and Master Degree is considered undergraduate degree by your definition - how different it is from the Master Degree in the United States, since in the USA Master degree is a graduated degree? Does one have to get Bachelor degree before applying for Master degree?

The content, difficulty and number of semesters required to complete a degree programme is exactly the same in the Czech Republic as it is in the U.S.A., Canada or other European countries. The only difference is the classification of the university studies into individual degrees, which is absolutely irrelevant in the international context, and, it will be unified very soon.

A degree of a Bachelor or Master are of the same value as anywhere else. In fact, Master degree is really considered undergraduate program in the Czech Republic, although it takes as many semesters as Bachelor degree followed by Master altogether. Some degree programs require finishing the Bachelor first and then an applicant may decide on proceeding to the Master, but in Physical Education and Sport, applicants are directly admitted to the Master program, which takes the minimum of 4 years. The graduates are given transcripts saying clearly how many semester correspond to the Bachelor degree (usually 5-6 semesters), and which semesters correspond to the higher academic degree (Master). The documents will be ellaborated in a manner, so that the graduates didn´t have any problems with the diploma recognition and comparison with other educational systems.
