Applicants for admission to Master degree in Physical Education and Sport are expected to display a corresponding level of motor skills, which are tested in four main sport areas :
TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETICS
SWIMMING
GYMNASTICS
SPORT
GAMES
The
performance level required in the tests is the prerequisite for success in
practical lessons.
Performance
in each sport is assessed according to a point scale of 0 to100 points (the
total score of 400 points is the maximum, which may be achieved in all four
tests).

Applicants
are given points for their performance in each of the four events. Applicants
can get the maximum of 25 points for each event (the maximum total score of 100
points).
Qualifying
limits will be a little lower for the applicants over 30 years of age.
SWIMMING
(Scale of 0 - 100 points)
Applicants
have to swim 100 m using a competitive swimming stroke, which cannot be changed
throughout the race. Applicants must start with a starting dive from the
starting platform. Starting dive is a part of the test..
The
time reached is assessed in points according to a unified scoring table.
The
final assessment may be 10 to 30 points lower for technical mistakes, when
changing the style or if starting dive is inappropriate.
Men
1:16.0 min - 2:02,1 min
Women
1:35.1min - 2:16.1min
The
following mistakes in swimming technique are considered unacceptable:
Breaststroke:
1. Legs: inclined kick, stroke by an instep
or by a tiptoe.
2. Inability to breathe out
into water.
3. Coordination of both
upper and lower
extremities is not good.
Front crawl:
1. Breaststroke leg kick or scissor leg kick.
2. Inability to breathe out
into water.
3. Shortened arm stroke.
Backstroke:
1. Not keeping the basic body position.
2. Breaststroke leg kick.
3. Interrupted arm movements.
GYMNASTICS
Applicants
perform floor exercise, exercises on a bar and vault. The performance is
assessed according to the rules of sport gymnastics and marked 0 to10 points. It
is possible to perform the exercise twice and better mark counts. Total
assessment is the average result of all three disciplines. The final assessment
is transferred to 100-point scale.
Examples
of unfulfilled requirements are given for each discipline.
Men
Floor exercise
Run-up
and walkover (into basic position) - stride out and take-off with right (left)
leg to handstand, hold 1 sec. - roll into knee bend, arms stretched forward -
back roll into knee bend support. Not performing the somersault, roll or
handstand = 0 points.
Horizontal
bar
Hip-swing
up from revert hanging- backward swing with half hip circle backward with the
swing on to the ground underneath the bar - upstart - half hip circle backward
with the swing on to the ground underneath the bar. Not performing hip‑swing
up or upstart = 0 points.
Vault
(120 cm)
Straddle
from body stretching horizontally backward with run up and take off feet closed.
Performed by sitting, or touching apparatus with buttocks = 0 points.
Women
Floor
Handstand
from step forward with one leg, then roll into sitting, arms raising upward,
slowly deep bend forward - back roll feet apart into wide straddle stand and
stoop back roll into stand, arms raising upward, arms sideways and hands down -
somersault from run up and somersault leap (landing with closed legs or to one
leg).
Horizontal
bar
Hip-swing
up from standing bent arm hang - riding rest by half circle with right (left)
leg, reverse grasp - stride circle forward - by half circle with left (right)
leg forward landing with turning right (left) into stand on the floor (leg
sideways raise with turning). Not performing hip-swing up and stride circle = 0
points.
Vault
Horse
crossways without pommels (120cm), beating board removed from the horse at least
to 100cm - squat vault from run up. Not performing vault, interruption of the
vault by the jump, half circle or by bringing the board nearer than 1m = 0
points.
Requirements
remain the same even for applicants over 30 years of age.
SPORT GAMES
Applicants
choose one of four (girls one of three) sport games ‑ basketball,
volleyball, handball and football for men, in which their skills performed are
assessed in a match.
Applicants
perform special tests in all mentioned games except the one, in which they are
assessed during the match.
The
maximum total score achieved in sport game tests is 100 points.
Each
sport game is assessed according to the following scale:
0
to 25 points men
0
to 33 points women (1 missing point is awarded when a match is assessed)
A
stand (or a chair) is placed on each side of a basket in a 45-degree angle, 8 m
from the end line.
A
ball is placed on both of them (see the scheme).
Tested
action: a player is standing next to one of the stands s/he takes a ball (at
this moment the time begins to be measured), he/she is dribbling toward the
basket and is shooting while moving from a short distance. After the successful
(unsuccessful) shot he/she is landing and passing to a helper who is standing
behind the stand. The pass is a part of a test and has to be directed to that
side from which the tested player has taken the ball. The activity is performed
three times from each side without interruption (six times altogether) and the
time is stopped at the moment when the ball leaves the player’s hands in the
last pass.
Evaluation:
The technique used in the actions is the main criterion, then speed and fluency.
The time limit is 40s for men 45s for women.
Volleyball
1.
Test of overhand serve facing the net
A player standing in the
service zone performs overhead serve facing the net, using the proper technique
(posture, throw-up of a ball, hit) without infringing the rules.
Number
of attempts: 3
2.
Test of setting the ball
A player repetitively sets
the ball to a team‑mate using above-the-face set/pass or bump pass
Technique of setting the ball and movements of the player are assessed.
Time
of setting/passing: 3 - 5 minutes.
3.
Game performance
Game played by maximum of
four players in a court 16 x 9 m. For position of players, see the picture: A
server is at the back. Serve from the right back corner of a court (for a
serve).
Playing
time: 10 minutes.
Individual
skills
12
of a handball court 20x20m, 2 balls,1 stand, stopwatch. There are four points
marked in the court. Point A for the tested player, B for balls, C for a helper
and D for a stand (see the picture).
Tested
skills (from the view of a right-handed player): A player is standing at A
facing the balls. He/she is starting without a command, he/she is taking the
first ball at B and dribbles toward the centre line. He/she has to turn
there and pass upward with one hand to the helper at C. He/she is returning to A
as fast as possible after passing the ball. He/she is turning again, running and
taking the second ball at B. He/she is dribbling to D then is running round D on
the right and dribbling back towards the goal. After the break holding the ball
he/she is a jump-shot with one hand (ball falling into the goal area). The
performance must correspond with handball rules. Left-handed players
perform it mirror-like. The time is measured from the moment of taking the
first ball till the second ball leaves player’s hand.
Test
of handling the ball - slow down, advance with the ball with changing
direction and passing the ball with instep for a long distance.
Equipment:
balls, stands.
Tested
skills (see the picture): A tested player standing in a restricted area (3x3m),
has to slow down the ball passed upwards from 10m distance. After slowing down
he is advancing the ball in marked direction round the stands. He has to stop
the ball by step on behind the goal line and turn and pass the ball with the
instep back into the restricted area (9x9m).
Assessment:
The level the applicant has mastered all three playing skills and fluency of
performance.

! ! ! Note for self-financing international students: ! ! !
the
applicants are required to go through the talent tests to get a notion of what
skills are expected in each successful applicant for Master degree in sport and
exercise science. The results do not play the key role in admission, however,
the applicants, who do not meet the requirements in their tests, take over the
responsibility for a possible failure in the practical area of his/her studies.
